If you live in New Jersey, you might want to pay special attention to this article. If you're terminated for misconduct, you could be disqualified from collecting unemployment benefits in New Jersey:

That was the worst written article I have ever read. I know nothing more about what the misconduct tier is that I did before I read it.

However, being fired for misconduct will disqualify you for unemployment anyway usually. It has to be pretty blatant for it to be considered misconduct. You have to steal, or assault someone, or something like that. I know someone who was fired a while back for calling one of his customers a douchebag and he still qualified. I realize it is all how the termination was written up but usually misconduct is hard to prove.

It's not enough to be fired for it, the employer needs to prove that this is what has occurred. When I was terminated from Target, they claimed I was telling other people how to hack their computer network yet they couldn't prove any of their lies, which is what they were, lies.

None of their claims could be backed up in such a manner and they kept getting turned away from the unemployment agency of Michigan because they couldn't verify it.

I've been terminated from two employers for misconduct, and yet they couldn't provide proof of these complaints to the UI Agency. Employers all often claim misconduct just to get out of paying an employees unemployment benefits.
