First topic message reminder :
Mom passed peacefully at about 10:15am. Her heart simply slowed and then she stopped breathing. Please keep me in your prayers.

I dont think they do that Rhiannon...I think its the responsibility of the family.
It was an awful thing for him say. Im sure that was the furthest thing from your mind. But try to remember that he is grieving too and death of a loved one can bring out the absolute worst in some people. I hope he is supportive through the service. You need each other now. Do you have other siblings?
Keep your head up, you seem like a strong person. Please remember to take care of YOU!
Im sending prayers to you and your family with hopes that you get the support you need from each other.

S&T... don't think the funeral home has the right to do that either and it was low for my brother to bring that up. Realize that we're all dealing with the grief in our own ways but that was said in bad taste.

Rhi sorry to tell you this, but is the funeral homes job to do this. Only know this from losing my parents. Next months check will be issued, but it is your responsibility to return it. If not you will be liable. I m so sorry that when it rains it pours.

I hate to here about your mom Rhi. It is beyond tasteless what your brother said. It's ridiculous.
I wouldn't worry about the funeral home reporting the death of your mother. You will have a lot more to worry about with the arrangements and the will, trust me. Just be ok, stick around and keep us notified.

You know what silly... the government can go to hell. I can't believe some of this BS. And thanks lendme.. wish I had a phaser and could put my brother on stun at the funeral services. Sorry, I'm a bit pissed right now.

Thanks Lend... sometimes I think I'm losing it. Anyone have a phaser so I can put my brother on stun if need be? Sorry ... couldn't resist.. been watching too much trek but it seemed fitting.

Funeral Homes are now required by law to notify the Social Security Administration of a person's death. Believe me, this is true - families no longer report a loved one's death to SS, I have been through it several times in the past two years. One funeral home was in MD, and the others in RI. It is Federal law that has been in effect for several years to cut down on fraud.

I know this for a fact, because I am friends with people in the funeral home business. Before the laws were changed, my Mom knew a woman who never reported her husband death, and kept getting his SS checks long after he died. It wasn't the widow's pension. But Social Security caught up to her and she had to pay the money back.

You have my deepest sympathy. I remember what it was like to loose my mom. Take comfort in the fact that you were with her til the end and she knew you loved her.

Not as of yesterday, DiR... But she is worried about big trees around her. She stocked up on food and - she has a manual can opener! She was getting ice this morning. I live in southern Maryland and am about a mile from the Bay. Got ice, batteries for my radio, lanterns. I'm as ready as I can be.
