“It’s bad out there and no one is going to look out for you, but you!” When unemployment rates are as high they are, businesses quickly find themselves in a strong position of power. It’s an employers market, and they can take their pick of the litter from around the world. They don’t have to settle for anything but the absolute best and these are exactly the individuals they are going to hire. When it swings the other way and employment rates fall, the employee has the upper hand, but unfortunately this is not the case

Which is why the business community drives immigration so hard, drives the H-1b visa program so hard, and opposes INS raids on businesses that employ illegals.

They want to create the largest possible labor surplus, in order to drive down wages, divide the workers against reach other, and strengthen their own hand.

Only when there exists a labor shortage do human beings have scarcity value, and the dignity that comes with being able to negotiate a fair wage from a position of equality.

Employers are trying to hang on to this position for as long as possible. They dread having to return (and eventually they will) to the way it was in the 90's when employees were changing jobs when they started to feel unappreciated or something better simply came along, and employers paid top dollar for their services, which was the market value back then.

It is easy to tell someone to move and take any job. Many times that is the wrong advice. You have to take care of yourself to survive. Nobody knows better than you. So, don't give up!

This is exactly what I've been thinking for a long time. Now, we were told that the "Great Recession" ended in June 2009. It's now been over 2 years. The recession of the early 1980s ended in November 1982, & in 1983 & 1984, which is now the same corresponding 2-year period, about 7 million jobs were created, after 2.5 million lost during the recession.
By this standard, anybody that lost their job during the last recession should be able to find work by now, but we all know this isn't the case. Now, either they were lying about the end of the recession in June '09, or there's a big-time fraud going on, it's definitely 1 or the other. Hint, it's absulutely right about what you've said here, employers will do anything to hold on to this position as long as possible, & with Wall Street in the pockets of our Administration & Congress, this kind of fraud can't be ruled out.

I totally agree with jchapman. The last several months we actually lost jobs, not gain them. Were more than 10 million short on jobs. That is no recovery. It is a disaster. Whose math system are they using?

It's nothing short of worldwide legitimized slavery. There is NO middle ground anymore for workers. It's either you are cream of the crop or a disposable drone.

Working for another, regardless if your paid is still a form of slavery. You serve another for MONEY. And they in turn can treat you like crap. This system was made to be somewhat equatable over the last 100 years but now THOSE who OWN the machine have figured out a way to DISPOSE or minimize the workers PARTICIPATION in the SYSTEM they made and PROFIT MORE. This is where we find ourselves today. All our live we were TOLD time and time again to GET a good education, SO you can GET a GOOD JOB. This implies you SERVE ANOTHER in ANOTHER'S business. Your PAID but THEY PROFIT GREATLY from YOUR labor. Think about it in the BIG scheme. This whole worker/employer thing IS A CASH Bonanza for those who crack the whip. Sad part is most have been CONDITIONED to accept this way of life without question. Yeah we GOT paid, but at what cost? The very system that WE supported has turned on us and disposed of us. If your lucky to get reemployed, they can pay you FAR less because they CONTROL it ALL. Not a good system at all. And sadder part is WE outnumber them a million to 1 and we are STILL their slaves.

We have been so worried about terrorist since 911. We know who the real terrorists are. The stupid people in charge underestimate what will happen. They can't be rich without us. Also we give them permission to have the power. The French Revolution is a good example. May some heads roll.

Apparently they have found a way without us. They enslaved the 3rd world under the guise of EMERGING markets. They don't need us unless we take the pissant wage they give the 3rd world. Which is what they want. Why do you think SO many jobs have yet to return? As long as they can enslave others for less over there. They don't care about us. To them Human Resource is something to use and discard as NEEDED. We have been deemed a commodity. They are no better than the Pharaohs of old. As long as the pyramids get built...they DON'T care about the body count.

You can protest right back. Don't buy anything from any third world that has stolen our jobs. It has been years, since I have bought new clothes, except for underwear and socks.

Refuse to buy, if you can. I know it is very hard. Only spend money to save money. We have to save money anyways. Making these fat cats richer is against my religion (greed).

True, but I don't really believe it's always the cream of the crop that is retained. Jobs go to the unemployed friends/family members of employees, first. Human nature, but it means the most qualified sometimes are sidelined. It also means the country loses its competitive edge. ...It sucks to be me.
