Last night I attended most of The Week's annual dinner, which began with two interviews: David Gregory with Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors Austan Goolsbee, and Gregory with Lindsey Graham. Goolsbee was as cheerful about the economy as he could be while still being tethered to the earth below him.

"While there's a headwind of gas prices," he said, "and you've still got the European financial stuff unresolved, and we had earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear, Godzilla -- it seems like everything! -- in the face of that, it's been a pretty strong moving-out-of-rescue phase and into a transition-to-growth phase. We've added more than 2 million jobs in the private sector, and that would be a respectable year even in an expansion."

Just not a big fan of Goolsbee but that's probably the 'best spin' one can make of it. It's just the old trickle down never worked and now the good basic average middle class are in the basement with no windows or daylight to even remember where to turn. Kind of like the song from Cats "I remember what happiness IS"? Sad

I know so many families where more than one generation is affected by this unemp crisis going on SO LONG the teens/college kids have joined the ranks and NO ONE can help each other ANYMORE! It's beyond cruel and unusual punishment!! Evil or Very Mad

Goolsbee doesn't need a drink to be clueless. He is far too inexperienced for the position he is in. He fumbles every speech I have heard him give.

Schultz not ED but the new talking head for the dems keeps repeating LAZER LIKE focus on jobs. Its really getting old too. How to in experienced eggheads like Goolsby get these jobs. I just want to slap some sense into him. All I would need is one shot at him. perturd

Speaking of debt did you all see the tweet about McConnell and the GOP game plan for the debt ceiling? Made me sick. Ghoulsbee will have a heck of time spinning if that happens. He won't be the only one.
