Yet despite their numbers -- and their potential as a swing voting bloc, given their political diversity and shared predicament -- the 99ers are oddly invisible. They have had no mass protests in state capitals, no marches on Washington, no storming of Wall Street. Why? A lack of leadership is one factor: The 99ers are spread across the country and are only loosely organized, mostly through websites and a weekly chat on Twitter. A lack of cash is another. They can't pony up funds for buses to D.C. or New York. And many can't afford Internet service, which hinders online organizing.

Psychology also plays a role. Many 99ers I've talked to are battling a sense of shame at having lost a long-held job, and so they often keep quiet about their crises. "You don't want to walk out in the street and put a sign on and say, "Hey, I'm unemployed, look at me,'" says Rhonda Taylor, a 99er advocate from Rhode Island.

99 Weeks of Problems: Why Aren't They Organizing? Empty Funding

Post by 54andpoor Mon Mar 28, 2011 2:27 pm

It shows you the difference between real grassroots movements and the astroturf movements that are funded by corporations and billionaires. Grassroot actions don't get money for buses and TV exposure. Last week, there was a rally of 5000 union supporters here in Los Angeles. It barely got a mention in any news outlets. I'm afraid the corporate media is not worker friendly.

Thats because their masters want low wage SLAVES and they won't stop until they get it below $5 an hr. Rent, food and Gas prices will be higher and NO ONE will be able to afford anything but the rich. Add to the FACT that their devil minions in DC are gutting all entitlement and assistance programs will compound this disaster because there WON'T be any more help from those. See where this is headed? The "American" Nightmare is upon us.
